Ever wonder why so many business infographics (read: consulting infographics) suck? Harvard Business Review did (http://brentblog.typepad.com/brentblog/2005/11/hbr_crap_circle.html, the HBR article is archived behind a pay wall). They called beauties like the one here “crap circles” - drawings that show processes which never seem to end. Testing leads to launch leads to… planning? Where is the start and where is the end?

I think it’s purposeful. If a consultant gets hired to work on a project with a definitive start and end then he puts himself out of work upon completion. But with constant work, with another cycle to go after completion, the consultant creates work for himself or for another consultant, ad infinitum. The “crap circle” anchors that idea in the mind of potential clients.
