So I’m showing the VP of consulting what the in house wiki looks like in the off chance it might be relevant to their quest for a knowledge management solution.
“How familiar are you with wikis?”
“I don’t know what it is.”
“Okay, are you familiar with Wikipedia?”
“I’ve heard of it.”
“Okay, well you know what it is… ?”
“It’s like Google, isn’t it? It’s a blog thing?”

What proceeded was five minutes of the most surprising culture shock I’ve experienced in a while. Maybe I should travel more, but that’s beside the point. Our understandings of these things - wikis, blogs, websites, even where a website exists and who can access - were completely different. Rather, I had an understanding and she did not. It makes you wonder what it was like for upper management when electricity became an industrial input.
